Why Seavive?
Seagrass is one of the ocean’s most powerful yet overlooked ecosystems. It plays a critical role in stabilising coastlines by reducing erosion, creating a natural barrier against wave energy. Beneath the surface, seagrass meadows serve as vital nursery habitats for countless juvenile fish and marine species, supporting biodiversity and healthy fisheries. But perhaps most significantly, seagrass is a major player in the fight against climate change. As a key contributor to blue carbon storage, it captures and stores carbon dioxide from the atmosphere at rates up to 35 times faster than tropical rainforests. Despite all of this, seagrass is disappearing at an alarming rate due to pollution, habitat loss, and warming seas.
Here at Seavive: we provide a low-cost, low-maintenance, and scalable tool for seagrass restoration, aiding to protect coasts, boost biodiversity, and reduce atmospheric carbon. We believe protecting and restoring seagrass isn't just an ecological priority, it’s essential to the health of our oceans and our planet

Highly Effective Carbon Sinks

Essential Nursery Habitats

Reduces Coastal Erosion
Current Limitations
High Operational and Maintenance Costs:
Operating these systems requires continuous seawater pumping, filtration, and environmental control, leading to substantial energy consumption and maintenance expenses. These costs pose significant financial barriers to widespread or long-term cultivation efforts.
Land Resource Limitations:
Seagrass cultivation often necessitates large inland facilities to accommodate tanks and support infrastructure, making them land-intensive and logistically restrictive. This spatial demand limits scalability, particularly in urban or space-constrained regions.
Non-Standardised, Site-Specific Design:
Most cultivation units are bespoke, tailored to specific local conditions and constructed from scratch. The lack of standardisation hinders replication, making it difficult to compare results or develop broadly applicable best practices.

Our Solution
A self-contained, in-situ cultivation unit that operates autonomously in the ocean for months at a time. It requires no electricity, no continuous oversight, and can be deployed directly by local coastal communities. Opening the door to small-scale, community-led restoration efforts in places previously considered inaccessible while also allowing easy scalability for larger projects. Overcoming the many logistical barriers Seagrass faces today.
Seavive serves as a low-cost, low-risk and scalable solution to restoring our vital meadows.
PROTOTYPES
Poole Harbour + Falmouth
2022-2023: These unused buoys were repurposed and converted into cultivation units. Tests demonstrated the proof of concept. Seeds successfully cultivated and grew but long repeated deployment wasn't applicable for this design
Falmouth Harbour
2023–2024: Donations from various groups enabled the deployment of three small-scale prototypes around the Falmouth area. These trials tested the form and function of the latest designs, revealing some areas for improvement that are currently being reengineered
